Who Has What Exhaust System????

Postby seanmb6vti » July 1st, 2010, 6:59 pm

Hi guys just interested to see who has what exhaust system on their cars as I have a custom cat back and twice in less than a year its came loose where the back box meets the main part. It's driving me mad i'm gonna prob except defeat and get a decent one. Lifetime warranty is great but not when you're travelling about 60 miles to get it sorted and i'm now not even convinced i'm getting any power gains as last nite my mate and his t-sport smoked me about 90 onwards (Private Road As Always). (Gutted Lol) I know i can get mongoose etc. But just want to hear what everyone elses thoughts are. Might even just get a standard one if i can get cheap enough and punt the back box as its doing my tits in lol! Also i've spoke to some people and they told me for our cars never go custom always get a brand if possible! Anyways roll on the next meet!!!!!!

We've got the Powerflow cat back on dawns deck, and the power increase is only slight. Seems odd that your system keeps slackening off at the join mate.
Now got the powerflow on my mb6 aswell. seems to have made more of a difference powerwise, although still only slight, not massive. 8-)

I have a mongoose cat back system with new cat. Very good fit and sounds superb. I cant compare to the standard system because there was a straight through on it when I bought it. I will get a cat replacement at some point in the future.

Hi mate

Its quite a deep sound, not too loud if you have the cat still in but loud enough, it doesnt matter what tailpipe you choose, it wont sound different.

Its dead easy to fit, I got mine from http://www.ricerocketuk.co.uk/

I've got a custom catback from Exhausts UK in Sheffield. Great job, was done in a few hours & sounds great without shouting about it (I did ask for a subtle sports sound). £300 all in & could have (wished I'd) had a decat fitted for another £45. Only issue is that I more recently fitted a zs 180 rear arb & one of the mounting bars from the exhaust had been placed in the way; had to cut the bar, so hopefully they'll fit another & not affect the 25 year guarantee!

I've got the Powerflow on my deck. Good fit, sounds ok, I can't comment on any noticable power gains though, not that I was expecting any. Makers always shout large gains in their ads but in reality it's seldom more than a couple of hp at top end.

I've got a customized teg Mugen Twinloop catback, nice and quiet during normal driving and makes itself heard with spirited driving. I do notice some minor powergains.

I reckon a good stainless steel welder will be able to make any teg exhaust fit the MB6. The Twinloop was a bit of a pain because of the Twinloop pipe. Most will probably just need a bit of shortening of the mid section pipe.

I've got a Mongoose (still got the cat fitted).
Just slightly louder then stock i would say, mines a 4" single tip.

Performance wise, not sure as it was fitted when i bought the car.
Quality seems great, not had any problems with it so far.

Hi there all

Ive got the Toyo sports ebay cheapy one (bought from strictlyboost on here, Cheers m8).

Looks to be a really good quality bit of kit, have ordered a decat and manifold gasket and hopefully will get it on in the next few weeks, outlets 3 1/2" could have done with been a little smaller to look OEM but it will do.

I once had HKS Superdrager on my mine MB, it was brand new and cutting it to bits to fit the MB was abit unerving as it costed £550 back in the day :( After many rewelds I couldnt be bothered and cut off the tip and made an ashtray out of it lol.

I then went to TorqueTecnique in Wiltshire and saw my mate Mick. He made a 2.25" ss handmade system for me. Even the backbox was hand made as he asked how 'loud' did I want it.. Final result was lovely, loads of mid range and only sounded nice when you needed it. Its gives a very low rumble on idle and not like other systems you can get on the market.

I need to update this a bit lol Ok, the powerflow system on Dawns deck was holding the car back! :o To cut a long story short, we had problems with the garage (who were an authorised Powerflow fitter/dealer) who built the exhaust. Turns out it was not built to powerflows standard, was blowing because theyd blew a hole in the middle box with the welder  , was constructed with the wrong size of pipework, and to cap it all, the middle box WAS NOT even a Powerflow one! So Dawns Deck has now been to RJM in Glenrothes for a complete new system. This one is perfection, and the difference in how the deck drives now is like night and day. It's deffinately more responsive, car originally did 60mph in 2nd gear (auto) now does 65mph in 2nd. It was only a quick test to see what difference there was, and can say its sooo much more responsive now. It's also as quiet as a standard exhaust around town, and normal driving on motorway, even at 70mph. Only when you give it welly, do you get a nice subtle tone. All round very nice system ;)

Man thats sick did you get your money back off powerflow?
If you ware sold a wrong product you have a case
They claim to be powerflow so you thought you ware getting powerflow
What a bunch of peanuts
Man id hit the roof
Get your money for the exhaust, expences for Travling 2 and from there centre, and for time off the road.

I've got a Mongoose Decat Back exhaust for my MB6, Love it. Perfect fitment, great sound, looks great, and its not too big. VTEC sounds great, but my MOT man doesnt like it, lol, so its got to be changed before MOT due to the Decat. Other than that, well worth it.

Hi.

I've got a powerflow back box made to be stealthy (after my last experience of headache drainpipe exhaust), and a supersprint centre section, which has really given a nice deep note withoutk being too loud.

From what I've been told, the backbox is the least important bit power wise, which is why I went for the powerflow even though I have never heard great things about them... would reccomend supersprint... when I need a manifold / fast flow cat I'll probs go for them :)

**edit... except they don't do cats for our m's... oops

from what I've heard, the problem with powerflow generally is the kit's not designed specifically for a particular car, so while this means that they can do an exhaust for any car, there's no guarantee that it'll be any better than a standard system - I think Dave and Dawn's expeience shows this... it depends who fits it.

I had a custom exhaust on my old j reg lsi, coz at the time I couldn't get a branded one for it. I got it from a guy who did bike exhausts and it was top notch. I even took it to tyre spot (local powerflow dealers) for a check over once after the guy had closed, and when it was on the ramps the mechanic recognised the guy from his welding style and called one of the younger lads across to show him.

I always liked this one, at least how it looks. Can anyone explain why this design has positive impact on power? I suppose it's something to do with the gas recirculation...

Hi there all

My mechanic mate finished installing the Toyosports exhaust/ebay adjustable decat and ebay manifold this morning, i will get pictures up and write a full review in the next few days, its good quality kit, manifold/decat and centre section were easy to go on but the backbox was a nightmare, kept knocking on the rear anti roll bar bracket.

Theres a definite increase in response rom the car, but it's so bloody loud, like r'really' loud on full throttle, the rear outlets a bit big for my liking too, pics up shortly.

cheers James

ask them to fit jointing flanges just like your original exhaust making it easier to remove in future. they made mine one piece. i now have to cut it in half or remove half the rear suspension if i had to take it off. they probably will use the flanges off your old exhaust as they did with mine. not what i really wanted as i wanted to keep my original exhaust for future if i decide to sell up.

ask them to provide you with new flanges. id buy an extendable de-cat pipe from ebay and tell them to fit it. if you change your manifold after the exhaust is fitted and the exhaust sticks out or fits behind the bumper, they will ask for more money for the adjustments. trust me iv been there.
